Ballet & Brushes: A Nutcracker Party at Valley Hills Mall

Chroma Collective Interactive Concert: Hearing & Creating Art with LRU

In collaboration with the Hickory Museum of Art, Chroma Collective presents an hour-long interactive concert that invites audience members to respond in real time to the music and tap into their inner artist.
Chroma Collective blends music and visual art in engaging and accessible ways, performing in classrooms, concert halls, libraries, and community spaces. Their programs highlight historically marginalized composers and are designed to help participants discover their own creativity. As the ensemble performs, audience members are encouraged to create artwork inspired by the music—painting, drawing, or experimenting with color, texture, and rhythm.
Through their unique chamber instrumentation of two trumpets and soprano/piano, Chroma Collective transforms each performance into an immersive, collaborative experience. The group’s mission is to make the act of creation approachable and enjoyable for all ages and backgrounds—no prior knowledge of music or art required.

Pint Size Picassos (Ages 3-5)
Location: HMA Satellite Location at Valley Hills Mall #209
3 – 5 Years with Accompanying Adult

Our pint-sized Picasso takes on a new adventure at our temporary location inside Valley Hills Mall (#209, 2nd floor, beside American Eagle). Young children and their favorite grown-up are introduced to art, the Museum, and how they work together to cultivate creativity. Each class will focus on a new book and artwork to go along with the book.

Homeschool Art Classes, Ages 5 Years & Older (Session 1)
$30; $20 Members
HMA’s homeschool program blends art basics, technique, and self-expression in a supportive setting where students learn, create, and connect. Each session begins with exploring how artists use line, color, and form to express ideas, followed by hands-on projects in drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking that build skills and spark imagination.
Teen Drawing Workshop (Ages 10 & Up)
$15; $10 Members
Is your pre-teen or teen curious about drawing? On the last Monday of each month, ages 10 and up have the opportunity to learn and practice simple drawing techniques. Our Drawing Workshop offers a friendly, casual environment to inspire creativity while improving illustration skills. Bring a sketchbook and each month we will focus on a different drawing technique, subject, or theme. Sign up for one or all! Classes run from September to May.

Teens will explore the history of mask-making across cultures and create one or two masks using a variety of materials and techniques. They’ll experiment with sculpting, painting, and embellishing to design unique pieces that blend historical inspiration with personal creativity.
