Handmade Paper & Dried Flower Valentine Card Workshop (Session 1)

In this collaboration with our Member Partner, BellaAge, come celebrate love and creativity in this two-day, hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the art of handmade paper and transform it into beautiful Valentine’s cards. Using recycled paper pulp, participants will create textured, one-of-a-kind sheets, then embellish them with delicate dried flowers and natural elements.

HMA has partnered with My Chapter House in Downtown Hickory to launch an ongoing Book & Art Club. Each month, participants will begin reading a new book on the 1st. On the 4th Thursday of the month, we’ll meet at My Chapter House for an art project inspired by that month’s book.
About the Book
Ten-year-old Mona and her beloved grandfather have only fifty-two Wednesdays to visit fifty-two works of art and commit to memory “all that is beautiful in the world” before Mona loses her sight forever.
While the doctors can find no explanation for Mona’s brief episode of blindness, they agree that the threat of permanent vision loss cannot be ruled out. The girl’s grandfather, Henry, may not be able to stop his granddaughter from losing her sight, but he can fill the encroaching darkness with beauty. Every Wednesday for a year, the pair abscond together and visit a single masterpiece in one of Paris’s renowned museums. From Botticelli to Basquiat, Mona learns how each artist’s work shaped the world around them. In turn, the young girl’s world is changed forever by the power of their art. Under the kind and careful tutelage of her grandfather, Mona learns the true meaning of generosity, melancholy, love, loss, and revolution. Chroma Collective Interactive Concert: Hearing & Creating Art with LRU
Free Admission!
In collaboration with the Hickory Museum of Art, Chroma Collective presents an hour-long interactive concert that invites audience members to respond in real time to the music and tap into their inner artist.
Chroma Collective blends music and visual art in engaging and accessible ways, performing in classrooms, concert halls, libraries, and community spaces. Their programs highlight historically marginalized composers and are designed to help participants discover their own creativity. As the ensemble performs, audience members are encouraged to create artwork inspired by the music—painting, drawing, or experimenting with color, texture, and rhythm.
Through their unique chamber instrumentation of two trumpets and soprano/piano, Chroma Collective transforms each performance into an immersive, collaborative experience. The group’s mission is to make the act of creation approachable and enjoyable for all ages and backgrounds—no prior knowledge of music or art required.
This project is supported by a grant from Arts Culture Catawba.

Author Tracy Chevalier transports readers to 17th-century Delft, Holland, in her richly imagined historical novel "Girl with a Pearl Earring" (1999). Inspired by Johannes Vermeer’s iconic painting "Girl with a Pearl Earring", Chevalier crafts a fictional account of the young woman who posed for the masterpiece, bringing to life the artist, his household, and the world surrounding the creation of the painting.
History and fiction merge seamlessly in this luminous novel about artistic vision and sensual awakening. "Girl with a Pearl Earring" tells the story of sixteen-year-old Griet, whose life is transformed by her brief encounter with genius—even as she herself is immortalized in canvas and oil.
