This painting depicts a scene I viewed near Roper North Carolina at the gateway to the Outer Banks. The star of the painting is the fall grass in the lower right third of the painting. The tidal river frames the grass while leading the eye deeper into the painting to a view that crosses the grass marsh and stops you at the far distant trees. The side trees in the near background stop the eye from exiting and directs the eye once again to the focal point of the fall grass in the lower right third. The warm tones of the ochre combined with the cool water and distant trees create an exciting color vibration and a mood of a late summer or fall day.
