"Let There Be Sunlight" | Lonny McSherley
oil on canvas
This painting depicts the scene I viewed from the new dock on Lake Rhodhiss near the town of Valdese, NC. The scene was cloudy and uninteresting until at one moment the sun broke through the clouds and dramatically highlighted the trees shown at the distant left lower third of the painting. The clouds took on highlight and the water turned very reflective. It was a sight to behold. The beautiful greens reflect the mood of late summer. The mixture of warm white against the cool blue and purple create drama. The triangular shape directs the viewers eye to the highlight of the sun. The eagle watches over the scene in hopes of catching his breakfast of fish.
- Lonny McSherley
